I have red hair. Actually, it’s strawberry blonde. As a kid, I always wanted blonde hair. The whiter the better. I envied my blonde friends and ignored the adults who told me how special it was to have strawberry blonde hair. As I grew older, I began to appreciate the color of my hair. It wasn’t so bad to have something that only 2% of the US population had. It wasn’t so bad to be different.
And then last year, I noticed it. I had one eyebrow hair that was white. Not gray, but white. A little research revealed that red heads don’t go gray. They turn white. My childhood dream has come true. Except this wasn’t exactly the way I envisioned it. One hair at a time. Lovely.
